Fairhaven Cafe s Message to Man Who Walked Out in Disgust

Right in the heart of Fairhaven is a quaint family-oriented café called The Nook, which values its customers to the highest extent. At around 9 a.m. this morning, owners Paul and Katie Menard were visited by a new customer visiting their business for the first time. Sadly, it just might be his final visit as well, and the reason is a bit odd. According to Paul Menard, here s what happened: an older gentleman approached the ordering station and asked for a regular coffee. The young woman who took his order was Hana Haskell, who has been working closely with the Menards for the past three years.

Bask still wants to open marijuana shop on Winthrop Street in Taunton

TAUNTON  After a defeat in court and before the Taunton City Council, there are more barriers for Fairhaven-based retail marijuana company Bask Inc. to open in Taunton.  The company has faced opposition for over a year from residents with traffic concerns about their proposed location at 400 Winthrop St. and some city councilors, but the road ahead is more unclear than ever before. In December, the company won in Land Court with the judge overturning the City Council s decision to deny them a special permit and ordering the Council to issue the permit. But the measures Bask has taken to get that victory have not endeared Bask to some members of the City Council.

New Bedford food bank gets donation from aquaculture organization

NEW BEDFORD  The line for the St. Anthony of Padua Food Pantry stretched down Nye Street as patrons came out with bags full of vegetables, fruit, canned goods and  on this particular Thursday pints of frozen, shucked oysters from local growers. This year, the Massachusetts Aquaculture Association continued a program started by the Woods Hole Sea Grant program and Cape Cod Cooperative Extension, which donated over 1,700 pints of oysters to the Greater Boston Food Bank last year. Through grant funding, the organizations were able to purchase oysters and donate them to local food banks, not only helping people in need of food, but also aiding oyster growers in need of revenue.
